There is actually a difference between dyspraxia and DCD but it is really small and nit-picky. Dyspraxia is a difficulty with motor planning or praxis, thought to be at a neural level - the dyspraxic brain honestly doesn't know how to make your arm pick up that kettle and pour the water into the cup. Developmental Co-ordination Disorder is thought to be a purely physical difficulty; your brain knows what to do but your body won't carry out the instructions.

Only it's obviously really hard to work out who has DCD and who has dyspraxia. People with DCD seem to improve loads over time, until their co-ordination problems are nearly all gone, because it is possible to train your body but you can't reach into your head and pummel your brain into shape. So I suppose you can only find out when you're older...

I found this out from the book 'Guide to Dyspraxia and Developmental Co-ordination Disorders' by Sharon Drew and Amanda Kirby. They explain it better than I can.

P.S. The 'dyspraxics work ten times harder' quote comes from Robert Frank's book 'The Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child'.

Actually to proffesinals that no 0 about this condition we actual work and try over 10x more than anyone else!
our brain has to work harder y'no!
renember? are we in contact? the squigdy thing in our heads? sounds familar?

10 Times harder doing what? Moving?

Maybe that’s true because when i was walking up Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in the British isles) I found that after 4 hours of walking and running my lags were moving without though, or less of it. and after 8 hours I couldn’t stop walking and my trainers were on fire.

Thanks Vicky for clearing that up! It was actually really bugging me! :D.

Having read what you said maybe I have DCD and not dyspraxia because a lot of my problems have cleared after time? Actually though some of them are still here so maybe I am dyspraxic? ARGGGH! Can't make my mind up! :D
