What part of algebra are you stuck with? I ask because my father is a maths/stats teacher, and because I (atypically) achieved an A in A-Level Mathematics, so I'd like to think I'd be able to help!

is it simplification or equations that you can't do?
I can do equations easily but I have no idea about simplification

is it the bit where you have to work out how many of this and how many of that there are? E.G: x+y+x+y+3 is the same as 2x+2y+3 or is it the bit where you have to work out what something is e.g: 2x=5 so x=2.5. I am better at the second part.

just out of interest what level of maths are you doing?

i understand how to do that question but i wouldn't be able to explain it without having a piece of paper in front of me, i'll see if i can think of a good way of explaining it

x^2 + y^2 = 13
9x^2 + y^2 = 81 (square everything on the bottom line and rearrange to put in the same format as the top line)

Now it is a simultaneous equation so you can subtract one from the other.

Therefore
9x^2 + y^2 = 81
- x^2 + y^2 = 13

Is 8x^2 = 68

Solve for x then you can also solve for y by putting the x value in. Hope that helps!

Miranda, calm down.
Can you explain first of all on a post, what you know, what you don't know, any questions on algebra and an example that I could see what I can do with?

Umm, i know, nothing, i guess...
I missed the term we started algebra, then came to a different school where they were further on at it than i ever was so i havent a clue, here's a question, and how i worked on it:

xsquared + ysquared = 10
2x+y=-5
2x=-5+y
2x-+5=-y
-2x+-5=y
y=-2x+-5
xsquared + (-2x+-5)squared = 10
im stuck
