In the poem the use of ivory may refer to the colour of ivory, of which the horse appeared, perhaps due to the moonlight.


Argh, eDan, I didn't notice that! I could have juiced an extra hundred words out of that!

And the horse could be a phantom - I didn't think of that either...

I doubt whether a horse would introduce itself with, "Boo!" They usually make a lovely endearing snorting sound.

I have good news - Dr Smiley Hedgehog really liked the essay I wrote on Jane Austen's Mansfield Park! Finally! So...out of the seven essays I've written for him, he's unreservedly praised two and slated five. 2/7 of my Englishy brain is still functioning.
