ENGLISH TEACHER DOES NOT GET IT!

Postby k9ruby » Wed Nov 16, 2005 7:03 pm

In english we had to write a essay on 'an inspector calls' as part of our coursework. It was nearly 1700 words long. I typed the first draft and they said they need a 2nd draft HANDWRITTEN, (WHY I DO NOT KNOW!) so i did it spending a about 1/2 an hour everyday but at the weekend i wrote for ocver 5 hours (hand felt very crippled afterwards, so did arm!).

Now, apparently they also need another HAND WRITTEN 3rd draft!!!! Gahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a GCSE rule that at least one piece of coursework should be handwritten. This is because handwriting is considered a literacy skill and it has been getting worse over the years. I can understand why they want to preserve students' writing skills, but it isn't fair in the case of a dyspraxic student. Ruby, I suggest you ask your teacher just to accept your second draft. Or you could type the third draft and pretend that it is actually your second.

She can't help this. She is only following the exam board's rules.

why do the drafts need to be hand written? I can understand if it was the final wight up. we got an option of which piece of courswork to hand-wright and the didn't have to be that long. I'm in the second set. I don't know what set you are in.

If you were planning to pay a friend to do your work for you, I would be against it. But you're not. You've done the essay. You just need your friend to write it.
