Which ones do you/don't you mind dropping? Or can't you drop them?

Couldn't you have some extra coaching and keep all your subjects? Or would that be too much?

In that case it would be best if you learnt it at home. Is that the language spoken in your house?

You can get an exemption from doing one of the subjects if your parents and the school agree. I had a friend who didn't do a modern language, and I didn't do a technology subject (which you had to do when I did my GCSEs, and IT didn't count then!).

Good luck. I think you should be able to drop it, given the exceptional circumstances.

I'm jealous! It's one of the few Germanic cities I have a burning urge to visit.

I have put on six kilos since coming to Cambridge. I don't think I'd fit!

Vienna is a lovely city. When are you going? I'm there for a few days over New Year if you want some tips when I get back.

A few other Germanic places of interest:

Salzburg (Mozart and lower Alpine peaks)
Innsbruck (the Alps dwarf the city)
Heidelburg (beautifully preserved University city with castle remains)
Freiburg (likewise, with little streams running along the pavements)
Munich (pleasant city all round, near the Alps, nice!)
Lake Constance (wonderful Lake amongst the mountains on the German, Austrian, Swiss borders)
Interlaken (a nice base for taking the train to Jungfraujoch, which is amazing)

I would love the chance to be in a devout Catholic country at the time of Holy Week. I want to see a Passion Play - and not necessarily the one at Ober-Ammergau - and get a taste of undiluted Roman Catholicism.

My sister will be performing Music for the Mystery Plays at the York Early Music Festival this Summer (although it won't be anywhere near Holy Week, and so won't fully satisfy your wish.)
