Getting our studying under control

Postby parnassus » Thu Nov 08, 2007 4:58 pm

I have difficulty with time management and organising my workload properly. I know that many people here struggle with this problem. It's not laziness - I will often spend hours working obsessively on projects. The trouble is that I can't work out how to divide my time evenly between all the things that need doing. I used to allocate an equal amount of time for each assignment (two hours for French translation, two hours for writing an essay, etc.) but that didn't obviously didn't work out, as some things are more difficult and time-consuming than others.

This is a thread that we can all use to help us organise our work and to keep motivated. I am going to post my study plans for each day in here and let people tell me if they think I am trying to accomplish too much with too little time, or getting my priorities wrong. Feel free to do the same for yourselves. A committee of dyspraxic people may be better at organising things than a dyspraxic person going solo.

Things I Need to Do

Academic

Write an essay on tragedy and language. (Due in on Tuesday.)
Organise supervisions with both of my dissertation supervisors. (Soon - it's getting urgent.)
Doing some work on my dissertations so that my supervisiors actually have something to read. (Urgent.)

Pastoral
Update the CUSU mental health website.

Tonight:

Write a thorough introduction for my dissertation on Holocaust literature and start work on the main body of the dissertation. (Two hours.)
Write a similar introduction for my dissertation on mystical theology in literature. (One hour.)
Renew my library books before I get fined. (Five minutes.)
E-mail my supervisors. (Five minutes.)
