Self-Teaching

Has anyone here ever self taught themselves? I ask because I'm thinking about teaching myself some maths as my niece asked me to look over her maths revision and I really struggled with it so I've thought about buying one of those key stages books (CGP) and just going over it in my own time.

The key stage books, especially CGP ones, are really good! I had to teach myself my entire GCSE chemistry coarse because my teacher was very bad, I found that some sort of worksheet is also helpful in keeping the stuff in my head. I do think that CGP have some workbooks if you want to look.
