The news showed the area of the nose and mouth being transplanted. Transplanting the whole face is too creepy. It's a small world, people would think they were seeing things! And passports and other related things could become a problem! The world would have to rely on DNA testing!

I don't think so, pinkparrot. After all, two people can't use the same face at the same time, and presumably transplantation can only occur after death.

I don't get it. How does what I'm saying imply there should be two faces at the same time?

Passports expire with a person's death. Therefore, it would be impossible for someone to impersonate the donor of their face - that person would have to be living in order to have a valid passport. And if s/he were alive, they would scarcely be able to donate his/her face.

if your using there face for a transplant theres a high chance that they are dead. unless they got a face transplant and swaped there face fro some one else who was dead. but there would be records for that type of sergery.

Someone would have to know, and a highly qualified doctor at that, or else how would the surgeons manage to take his face? There is a lot of bureaucracy in this country and deaths have to be reported to the registrar. Willing organ donors are also registered in a big database.

Back to the face transplants. Scientists are now working on doing the whole face.

The woman who the news article is about apparently had no other option, because HER face was too badly damaged, but only on part of her face. To Stop her body rejecting the tissue she has to take drugs for the rest of her life.

So it's like any transplant where the cells are rejected, just on the face?
