You've lost me. What have fingerprints and gloves got to do with it?

About returning the money to the owner, without people claiming it when they didn't lose it. It probably wouldn't work anyway.

Do you mean they clould look for Fingerprints on the note? because loads of people could have handled it and you wouldn't know which fingerprints are the owners.

I suppose. But it would still rule out people who hadn't even touched the note!

Pinkparrot, unfortunately millions of people handle banknotes each day so it is impossible to track down it's owner this way.

I would (I hope) follow Esther's lead. However, I confess that once I was stranded in Chorley train station on a bleak October night with no money and no means of getting to my house, as I'd lost my return bus ticket. I didn't want to walk an hour to my home, as Chorley is not the most salubrious of places. Even if I managed to dodge the ubiquitous horde of drunkards without being harrassed, I would have to face a trek through some very isolated countryside.

That was when I saw the five-pound note lying soiled in the gutter. Miraculously, no one had noticed it, although it had clearly been trodden on. I didn't donate it to charity; I bought a bus ticket and pocketed the change.

I probably would have done the same in that situation.

I agree; if lady luck has given you a blow, and good fortune gives you opportunity to get out of your pickle, then fair enough. I would have done just the same in that situation.

I would hand it in, or leave it there, for the person to come back and find it. then again it could get stolen then
