Really Pointless Debate Series #1: Who is the best actor?

Postby Hermionefan5 » Wed Apr 18, 2007 7:31 pm

Okay, so I decided to start a really pointless debate series. It should be fun. We debate really pointless (and sometimes stupid) topics but it's great. :) I saw it in my newspaper and I thought I'd pass it on.

Okay, so who is the best actor EVER?

It's hard for me to say. I guess I'd just have to go with...well I dunno. Probably I'd go with Johnny Depp or Ryan Gosling. Both play their characters as if they actually ARE them and that's just basically awesome. I'll probably change my mind about 52 times during this debate, but hey, it's a pointless one so as far as I'm concerned, everyone can change their position. Plus, I don't have a favorite actor.

a hard one hmm. kevin spacy, christian bale, jake ghyllenhall (see donnie darko and bubble boy and jar head), johny deep i hate when peaple look at him as a sex icon though instead of a good actor, cillian murphy, jim carrey (thats right jim carrey see eternal sunshine and man on the moon).
out of that list kevin spacey and christian bail are my top ones out of that lot.
ill think of more later

Yeah, Christian Bale is great too. I also really like Jim Carey in Eternal Sunshine and also in his other movies. :) I like Robin Williams too because I think he's pretty versitile. Spacey's awesome as well. I can't help but think Johnny Depp is good looking, but I still think he's an awesome actor. Cillian Murphy is pretty good as well.

In my opinion, none of these relatively modern actors can hold a candle to Sir Laurence Olivier. His Shakespearian works are fantastic.

I think mine is John Hurt. I've always liked him as an actor ever since seeing him as caligula in I,Claudius.

When I entered the thread I wouldn't have known where to start but I have to say Jim Carrey, most films he's been in I've really enjoyed and he's a very versatile actor, see the contrast between "The Truman Show" and "The Number 23".

I'm also going to have to say Tom Hanks because well, he's just pretty amazing. He's done a lot of great movies--"Castaway," "Saving Private Ryan," "Philadelphia" to name a few.
