Right or Wrong?

Which is better: to do the wrong thing for the right reasons, or to do the right thing for the wrong reasons?
You don't have to be dyspraxic to be exeptional

But it helps!

I have no idea to be honest. Depends heavily on the situation.

I believe that your integrity lies with your intention. It is much better to have the best intentions but make a bad mistake than it is to exploit the right thing for the wrong reasons.

Or, to quote T.S. Eliot:

This above all is the greatest treason:
To do the right thing for the wrong reason.
"This above all, to thine own self be true." - Polonius, Hamlet.

Hmm. If you do the right thing for the wrong reasons then it follows that if you have those wrong reasons you will do more wrong than right. If you do the wrong thing for the right reasons then it follows that if you have the right reasons you're inclined to do more right. It's all situation-specific and the important thing is to try to do the right thing whether it turns out to be that or not.

Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons has the right impact on that particular time but I'm not sure about the long-term. Doing the wrong thing for the right reasons is more likely to affect long-term things.

Do you mean what makes you a better person, or what is best for everyone else.
You'll do more harm to others doing the wrong thing, but what sort of person you are depends on why you make your choices.

I voted 'do the right thing for the wrong reasons' because I think for the most part it's better to do the right thing as it has a better impact on other people. You[re the only person that's going to know you did it for the wrong reasons. If however you think you're doing the right think for the right reasons and it turns out to be wrong....well perhaps that's better on you're part because at least you're trying to be an honest, good human being!

If you do what you think is right dependant on circumstances, sometimes when it comes to helping others you have to be selfish and put their safety and welfare first.

Getting your head and heart to agree on what is right or wrong however is a hard task

Personal morality, much in the same vein as personality, is little more than a culmination of your experiences and conditioning.

Doesn't it depend on the situation?

As an example... you have the power to detonate a nuclear bomb in London, it is assured that this will change the human race for the better, what do you do? (stolen from Heroes and the Watchmen)

Ah, but the question there has changed. Now you're asking for a definition of the right thing.
