MPs And Expenses

Postby Katielauren2001 » Sat May 16, 2009 1:34 pm

What do you think? It makes my blood boil. Making us pay for things they should have to pay for. Nappies? A bath plug? Furniture? They get paid enough for doing hardly anything.
They have accompanied many other reason for bringing this economic crisis to this country.
To me (sorry if anyone gets offended) they are a bunch of snobs who think they are so much better than the ordinary people of society and that they can trod on us and dip into the taxpayers money whenever they like. Expenses were originally supposed to be for MPs that lived along way from London, and it would pay for their house (across the border). Their greed knows no bounds, they owe us a great big apology in my opinion.

I agree. Some of the things they have claimed for are ridiculous such as a bag of manure! The whole system has just been taken advantage of.

In Ireland it is worse , The PM gets about 10K for make up, Ministers get chauffeurs and nearly all the ministers go on 10K holidays the week of Paddy's day.

there is actually a law that says that if they do not have a residence in london or near london they have to get one, I cant remember why but it has something to do with tradition. I dont agree with all the extra things and stupid things theyve got unnecesarily tho. they should live like ordinary people, everyone ekse has to pay for their own Tv's and whatever else so they should aswell.

Well its hardly shocking news now is it? I mean come on you expected them to have power and not abuse it? I just think it was to be expected, there is a saying up here that fits rather well You can tell when a politiician lies when he opens his mouth.

However I dissagree with the original veiw that they do hardly anything and are snobs. The first is just unfair, the amount of work a politician does is pretty rough commities, sub commities, holding surgery's etc... snobs I will grant you in some cases but its really unfair to say all of them.

yes, they may actually do things, but it's not always the right things.

and seriously, some of the things they spend tax-payers money on, and some of the excuses "I needed a dvd player because lots of people send me dvd's and i don't have time to watch them at work" or something like that. I can't beleive that one of our local ones said she deserved to have it. what does she think everyone else does?

Of course, she NEEDS to have it, because it's her right, just like it's our right to claim money from the government to pay for swimming pools and t.v's. (< Sarcasm) I think they should spend a month living in a third world country, where there isn't much clean drinking water. Maybe then they would realise what the need and don't need.

Ridiculous.. makeup wow.
And what I meant to say was yes they may do work but there are people out there with harder, back breaking work who get paid less and do not get as much bonuses and they certainly don't get most things paid for them by taxpayers. Yes not all of them are snobs, but alot are (I wrote that rant in a lot of anger) They need to be brought down to earth, yes that would be a great idea cfc send them to a third world country to realise how lucky they are.

I think they should all be provided with a flat in london to stay in when they need to as MP's, and that it should be maintained to an apropriate standard (ie. apliances and plumbing in working order, no water coming through the ceiling, free internet access since they'll be working, etc), for free and anything they don't need to a) do their job or b) live should come out of their own pocket. It even solves the problem of them doing homes up on expenses to sell on, as it won't belong to them.

However, the main flaw in the system is the fact that it's the MP's who largley get to make these decisions.

I dont think they should be provided with anything except the bare minimum of expenses they get paid enough My dad has to travel to London sometimes all he gets is petrol money. He stays with my Nan when he is down there. My mum and dad both work damned hard for a pittance and dont get any of the luxuries that that crowd get for nothing.

good god no how the hell did you pull that one? Communisim and Socialism for all their good intentions instead of creating a balance in power towards the people it makes two new classes the State and everyone else, which is the opposite of what these where meant to do which was to destroy class systems entirely.

I beleive we dont need reprsentatives to start wars on our behalfs we dont need people to make decisions about our lifes and how we live them and we certainly dont need anyone telling us to impose our beleifs on anyone else. I beleive power corrupts and taking away power making everyone as equals becuase of blah blah blah I could go on a whole rant but that would lead further off topic than we allready are. So in short dont make assumptions about what I do and do not beleive post a new topic for that. ;)

:? That's confusing. So if we don't have people to run the country, how it run? I agree with the bit about not imposing our beliefs on others, but how would it work with no government? :?

Do you reckon if I became an MP, I could get a flamethrower on expenses claiming their where too many zombies in my constituancy? I mean, so long as that was the location of my second home it would probably count as maintainance (zombies have a tendenecy to trash the place).
