South Ossetia

Postby vImpaler » Sun Aug 09, 2009 7:22 pm

I'm Russian (live in England now) and I would like hear peoples opinions on the South Ossetian War of last year.
My opinion: I was on holiday in Russia last august and the Russian news kept reporting that it there was a genicide coommited by the Georgians who invaded Republics (Ossetia and Abkhazia) recognised by the Russian Federation. I know it might have just been propoganda but I take Russia's side. When i went back to school everyone was convinced by what they saw on the BBC (or whatever) that Russia was the agressor.
I'll be glad to hear your opinions. :)

In my opinion the Georgians were in the wrong at the beginning but the Russian response was not proportionate to the threat, that is what they were criticized for. Peace talks could have resolved it but Russia decided to send 90% of their military might to fight an army not much bigger than the orchestra of Monaco.
