Classical Music

Postby Rodge1991 » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:13 am

I find that classical music is a dying genre in the terms of popularity, the very mention of it sends people scurrying away in cold fear!

I find that Classical is heavily under-rated and that there are people who
-Like it but either won't admit to it
-People who have made their judgement and won't even try it
-Even those who like it and they don't even KNOW it is Classical in the first place!
(Harry Potter and Star Wars were always my excellent examples)

So this is a good place to discuss orchestral music, old, new or film score, whatever you enjoy! :D I enjoy listening to most classical music anyway, and a little bit of opera here and there.
But here are some of my favourites:

-William Tell overture
-1812 overture
-The Four Seasons
-The Planets Suite (Jupiter and Mars being my top ones!)
-The soundtrack to Heavy Rain (PS3 game from a little while back)
-adagio for strings (Very, very powerful music)
-Jeff Wayne Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds
-Monks chanting type music (especially when I am visiting an old chapel)

Feel free to youtube them to get a better 'look' at them :)

I really enjoy listening to some pieces of classical music although I couldn't listen to it 24/7.

One of my favourite pieces is the theme from the game, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future although I love the entire soundtrack of the Professor Layton series:

Do you like Gregorian? They're one of my favourite bands. Well, I like quite a lot of classical music and I enjoy the odd opera piece as well. My favourites include:

Lacrimosa by Mozart

Beethoven's 9th Symphony

Beethoven's 5th Symphony (Who doesn't love that opening? )

The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart

Don Giovanni Overture by Mozart

Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky

I also like Tchaikovsky's music from Sleeping Beauty. Or at least Disney's tribute to it. They basically put lyrics to the music :) I started liking Mozart from seeing Amadeus, which I first saw a year ago. Which reminds me, I must download the soundtrack for that! :D

I do like some classical music, I love the way all of the instruments fit together, but I don't like classical as much as rock.
Some of my faves are:
Beethoven, Symphony 7, Allegretto, mvt 2
    Beethoven's 5th Symphony
    Camille Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre
Edvard Grieg, In the Hall of the Mountain King
I also like some (semi) classical versions of rock music like Apocalyptica's covers of Metallica songs.

I also liked it when metallica did some songs with the San Francisco orchestra, its surprising how well metal and classical go together!!!!

Definitely hall of the mountain king! It is just awesome.
debussy- clair de lune (although this is romantic era) I like all Debussy even if it romantic not classical :p

but people know clair de lune because when I play it on piano they know what it is, but they have no idea it was written in the 1800's...

I also like danse macabre,
william tell overture,
(flight of the bumblebee is always a fun one to watch and listen to :p)
mozarts clarinet concerto (mainly part 2 adagio which is the most well known)
mozarts Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

I do like them yes, I like music that has atmosphere.

One of the other music pieces I didn't mention was

Peter and the wolf by Prokofiev, very nice piece of music.
