How did you help yourself gain confidence?

Fri Mar 02, 2007 12:22 am

Shanna, you're a Christian. ;) You know where to look. Here are a few suggestions to be going along with:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." (Matthew 5:3)

"And I for my part have made you today a fortified city, an iron pillar, and a bronze wall, against the whole land - against the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the people of the land. They will fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, says the Lord, to deliver you." (Jeremiah 1:18-20)

"My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants for ever."
(Luke 1:46-55)

"For it was you who formed my inward parts;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
that I know very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.
In your book were written
all the days that were formed for me,
when none of them as yet existed.
How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
I try to count them—they are more than the sand;
I come to the end—I am still with you." (Psalm 139: 13-18.)

i had most of my hair cut off, drastic but the next day everyone was like Alison you're hair is amazing and i haven't been picked on since

I am glad that you're happy with your new look and that you're not getting bullied any more, Alison, but your solution might not be a good one for some people. Unfortunately it says something about the shallowness of your peers if they're prepared to be nice to you because you have a stylish haircut. Be wary of trusting them too much. They don't sound like reliable people to me.

If anybody on here considers altering their physical appearance, make sure you do it because you want to, and not because it might get you more friends.

I know not to accept these people as friends but i just wanted the bullying to stop as it was getting unbearable and i came home feeling depressed every day, i didn't think oooh if i get my hair cut i could be popular, but saying that i have kinda got a boyfriend since. not sure if thats due to the new look or what, but he has been a friend for 4-5 years

Congrats on the boyfriend! :) I'm glad the bullying has stopped for you! :)

I need to get mor confidence in my own ability. I find that I am always scared to make a mistake incase someone laughs or makes a fool of me so I would rather not attempt something incase I get it wrong :oops:

Yes, I sometimes feel the same way.

Mon Mar 12, 2007 1:43 pm

I haven't gained any confidence yet.So I don't really know what to do.
Sometimes people don't pick on you because of your looks.It is sometimes just because you act or seem different.

Mon Mar 12, 2007 3:52 pm

People sometimes think I'm weird because I act different than everyone else due to my disability. Sometimes people don't care that I'm really smart or really nice, they just decide to call me a "female dog" from a car window. It's at those times that I try to tell myself they are just idiots because they don't even know me. How dare they call me that?!?! :x Nobody deserves to be called that.

You are right, but we don't always get what we deserve in life. Just remember that it causes people more damage to insult than it does to be insulted. They are hurting themselves far more than they are hurting you, and the terribly sad thing is that they do not even know.

Shanna,I hope your feeling a lot better now.My confidence went a little downhill again but it's going back up! Take Care
