Coping Tip

Mon Jul 25, 2011 7:33 am

Children with dyspraxia are most likely to pick up a skill if they are given lots of time to practice. Of course, there are not enough hours in the day to practice all the tasks a child needs to learn, so it's important to only focus on one or two skills at a time.

Actually, I had the most luck when I started focusing on something where I could focus on acchivements rather than failings. Day to day tasks, which everyone else can do so easily, can be rather demoralising to work on. I took up a sport which wasn't covered in PE, so there was not much social pressure to succeeed. I found improved ability to do basic tasks followed on from the resulting improvement in coordination. Obsessive levels of doodling probably helped my fine motor skills a bit too.
