Christchurch Earthquake

Postby Alice » Tue Feb 22, 2011 3:21 pm

It was 6.5 on the richter scale, I think, and far more devestating than the previous one. People have been killed this time, and injured, allot of the structures have come down. Luckily my relatives are uninjured, but knowing how close we came to bereivement makes me feel even more for the people who did loose family. :(

I was watching the coverage on Sky News, it's just terrible especially as they think a lot of people are trapped under the rubble. I'm glad your relatives are okay, Alice. The problem with this earthquake, whilst it may have be weaker than the other one, the epicenter is closer to the surface so more damage is caused. My sister-in-law has relatives over there, I hope they are okay.

My uncle's house is OK, but now he's got a house in the middle of a street full of ruins, because of how the ground is, his neighbourhood may not ever be rebuilt. My Aunt, when I last heard, was still very busy as she works with the emergency services and such I beleive.
