Good day to you all!

Postby Bliss-Helena » Mon Aug 17, 2009 5:15 pm

Hi everyone! I'm new here, my name is Bliss (yes, that is actually my name) and I'm 15. I was diagnosed with dyspraxia when I was quite young although I didn't really understand what it was until I was about 11 or 12. I have all the general textbook dyspraxia symptoms: clumsiness, mega organisational problems, some social problems, oversensitivity to touch and sound, terrible at most sports etc etc. The list goes on and on. I remember reading the book 'Chaged in Chaos' and suddenly everything made sense! Realising I was dyspraxic made me feel so much better about myself because suddenly it was as though I wasn't alone anymore. The school has been really supportive, although P.E. and maths lessons are still like torture to me. I see the special needs teacher Mrs King with two of my friends Becca and Julia who are both dyslexic and we talk about thing that we are finding hard and she goes to talk to our teachers for us and things like that. None of my friends had heard of dyspraxia before they met me but I explained it to them and now they accept that it is part of me. You could even say that they love me for it! Finding this forum made me so happy and it's going to be really nice to have other dyspraxic people to talk to.

Hiya! I'm Steph and I'm 22. I have both dyspraxia and Aspergers Syndrome. I live in Surrey in south east England and I work as a support worker in a residential school for children with severe and complex epilepsy and other neurological and physical disabilities. It is very challenging but I enjoy it and I am getting better at it now! I love animals (I have 3 cats at home), the Internet, learning about other cultures and languages, reading and listening to music. I hope you enjoy the boards :D

Thanks so much Steph! Not everyone thinks so - I once had an R.S. teacher who spent an entire year trying to get me to tell her what my real name was! I live in the south east too but I live in Bucks.

Everyone here is so friendly! :D

Hi Bliss. Welcome to the forum. Your school sounds like they understand your dyspraxia much better than my school did!

Hi Bliss - lovely name. Welcome to the forum. I'm Esther and I'm 21 (technically too old for DT, but never mind.)
