Greeting to all.

Postby Reflux » Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:25 pm

Greetings. I don't want to reveal my actual name on the internet at this current point in time.
When I was younger I ha a teacher who though I was just lazy, thick and "immature". I was kept in at break a lot.
So, I was diagnosed at the age of 5, I believe, when my parents took me to an educational psychologist. I was said to be "A conundrum child" as, while I was "Dyspraxic" I could not be clearly labelled. Some things did not fit. I had an IQ test and a discrepancy was found between my mathematical intelligence and other skills, which seems to be common, but... my verbal intelligence was very high. So that didn't fit. I was taken to a handwriting specialist, which helped greatly, but my handwriting is still extremely hard to understand for those not used to it. I get extra time in exams which I do need.
I was given a choice between dance and a Martial Art to improve gross motor skills. I began Karate. I really sucked at first, but for some reason I keep going. It's "clicked, now, and I can compete with the best fighters in the club, thanks to my Senseis. They were really patient. But being good at Karate doesn't really fit either. The strangest thing though is that I really like drawing and I have talent in that area, although there is a slight tremor in the lines. When you look at my handwriting, that doesn't make sense at all! I m sorry this is such a big introduction, but in regards to my Dyspraxia, I feel very confused and I can' think of a way to make it less complicated. Now I must go and do my homework. Will post later.

Hiya! I'm Steph and I'm 22. I have both dyspraxia and Aspergers Syndrome. I live in Surrey in south east England and I work as a support worker in a residential school for children with severe and complex epilepsy and other neurological and physical disabilities. It is very challenging but I enjoy it and I am getting better at it now! I love animals (I have 3 cats at home), the Internet, learning about other cultures and languages, reading and listening to music. I hope you enjoy the boards :D
