Hi!

I'm new to this forum, and would like some information. I was recently just looking up stuff on the net... and found about dyspraxia. I noticed that I had a lot of the symptoms. For example, I'm a really messy eater, bad at tying my shoes, bad at using scissors and knives (just awful with my hands in general), clumsy, etc. (These issues were worse when I was a kid though). I'm 18 now, turning 19 soon and am in University. I've actually been doing very well in school for the last couple of years, but it's mostly because I'm very hard working and determined.

So I was wondering, should I get tested in someway to see if I have dyspraxia? I seem to have a lot of the symptoms, but should I try to see if i can get a diagnosis from a doctor? I mean, I guess it doesn't really change anything if i was formally diagnosed. All my life I felt like an idiot because I couldn't do basic things, but learning about dyspraxia makes me feel like it wasn't my fault. I tend to have very low self confidence, so I'm hoping learning more will help me in someway!

Any advice on the whole doctor issue would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks for reading.

Hello, welcome to DT. I'm Remus and I'm 18 and training to become a zookeeper. You sound just like me especially with the hand coordination, I can't tie to save my life and the same, I was a lot worse when I was a kid. What are you studying at university if you don't mind me asking?

I think you can get something done through university, however the easier way is to go see your GP and ask for a diagnosis who will then refer to a specialist like a neurologist or occupational therapist. I agree with you, I'm still undiagnosed, trying to sort it help but even if I never do, I don't think it will change anything. Maybe if I was younger but now, not really. Anyway, good luck with it and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Wow, spammers have got even more out of hand now if they're reply to topics.

Anyway, I'm Benedict and I'm 18 and have Asperger Syndrome and Dyspraxia.
Do you find that you have over-reactive scenes as well mate?

Hiya! I'm Steph and I'm 23. I have both dyspraxia and Aspergers Syndrome. I live in Surrey in south east England and I work as a support worker in a residential school for children with severe and complex epilepsy and other neurological and physical disabilities. It is very challenging but I enjoy it and I am getting better at it now! I love animals (I have 3 cats at home), the Internet, learning about other cultures and languages, reading and listening to music. I hope you enjoy the boards :D
