Hi There

Postby Rodge1991 » Fri Mar 09, 2012 7:53 pm

Hi my name is Robert, I'm 20 and I was diagnosed when I was about 9 years, I was heavily builled and recived no support from teachers from my school and feel that no one understands me.
So I've come here to find people with similar experiences that KNOW exactly what it is like and maybe finally finding somewhere I can fit in and not be judged or look down on :D

Hi Liam,
I'm glad to finally meet (and to talk to) someone who is similar to me! I have always wanted to talk to others who are Dyspraxic as I feel they are the best ones to talk to.

So who actually 'discovered' you may of had dyspraxia?

I have a few other medical problems as well to boot, but from what I remember my teacher noticed something was wrong with me. Especially in P.E and not being able to do my shoe laces among other things, so they involved the school nurse who thought it was dyspraxia. She advised I go see a doctor to check it out, so I went along, they did tests and they kept coming with all these different theories and conditions before nailing that it was indeed dyspraxia.

Not that bringing it to the attention of the school made any difference, teachers treated me as an idiot and over reacting, class disruptive child. And that attitude carried on into secondary school.

Hi everyone,
I like to know, what support (if any) you actually got while at school/college/work?

Hiya! I'm Steph and I'm 25. I have both dyspraxia and Aspergers Syndrome. I live in Surrey in south east England and I work as a support worker in a residential school for children with severe and complex epilepsy and other neurological and physical disabilities. It is very challenging but I enjoy it and I am getting better at it now! I love animals (I have 3 cats at home), the Internet, learning about other cultures and languages, reading and listening to music. I hope you enjoy the boards :D

PS. I was diagnosed with dyspraxia at the age of six and Aspergers Syndrome at the age of eight. I was lucky enough to receive a lot of support in school due to my statement-I had a one to one support assistant for 3 years, Social Skills sessions with a therapist, extra time in exams and a transcript in all external public exams as my handwriting is virtually illegible.

Hi Robert, I'm Jess and I'm 27, nearly 28. I was diagnosed with dyspraxia when I was 15. I was also bullied at school and didn't get much help with my dyspraxia.

So it seems some did get support, and some didn't.
I was one of the unlucky ones to not get any support, except for a 'time out card' -one teacher actaully told me dyspraxia didn't exist-this was while I was in 6th form, and this was the head of the 6th form :x
