Textual Analysis

Postby Andy » Sat Feb 02, 2008 7:34 pm

can anyone help me I havnt got a clue
The poem is called Poets Perks by Christopher Rush

Waking up
I find metaphors
tucked in the lining of my unconscious.
They were brought from a far country
on a strange craft;
smuggled like brandy
past the brains custom-house
while reason lay asleep, off duty .

Theyre like pocket miniatures,
small fry to the exciseman.
Or petty tax-evasion -
enough to call a drop of sleep
or sweat my own.
A line or two on the side.
Unpaid for.
Never a poem complete.
Once I dreamed of a whole volume
slipped under the pillow
like a sixpence for me in the morning.
I'd gladley have given my eye teeth for that.

Questions
what tone does the poet usein the opening of the poem towards his subject?
2 Referring to first 3 lines how does the poet create this tone?
3 Lines 4-5 They were brought from a far country on a strange craft
Explain the meaning of the metaphor?
By referring closley to lines 6-16 show how the poet extends this metaphor to develop his theme?

I'm sorry, Andy-I wish I could help you but textual analysis was my weakest part of English. I hope someone helps you soon.

Ouch! I'm sorry, Andy - I've only just noticed this. :( It is late at night now, but I will put something together for you tomorrow morning. It won't be ready in time for you to include it in your essay, but I will take care to explain some different techniques to you so that you can make use of them for your next piece of work.

I'm sorry I didn't read this before. Try not to be too upset - you're a very hard-working student and I'm sure you won't have done too badly. You are only so worried because you care about your work, not because you're no good at it.
