half term

Postby eoakley » Fri Oct 24, 2008 8:33 pm

Hi all
The first half term of the new school year is already over its gone so quickly, I hope everyone is getting on well and has interesting plans for the nest week.

I have started my PGCE to become a qualified teacher I am finally organised yippee i actually feel quite pleased with myself. I had a meeting with my tutor this morning about how she can support me during the next year and make sure that I get through the course, she was actually really sweet about everything. I also liked the fact she did not pretend to know what dyspraxia was and admited that she did not know anything about it, so I explained what it is and where my difficulties lie, and told her about the support which I have used in the past.

I also explained that whilst I was at university I used a laptop for note taking and it would not be possible at this university to use the laptop for reasons realating to location of plugs of lack of these so I use my alphasmart and explained what one of these was I am actually quite supprised that people don't know what these are, I have used this in my lecures already and lots of people asked me what it was when I explained to my tutor that I used a laptop her response was but your writing is quite neat, i then explained that it hurts my hand and readability of it decreases the more i write, and writing by hand requires much more thinking and is slow. She is also gonna help me with drafting my essays and make sure that my placement schools have an interactive white board and inform my school of my learning difficulties which I am really relieved about I dont really know how to bring it into conversation with my placement school and am a little bit embarrised.

An alphasmart is like a keyboard with a small screen at the top where you can see what your typing and it usually has several different pages so you can save more than one lot of work at a time and it saves automatically when you switch it off.

some people have half term at different weeks hairylemon.

like most liverpool schools (but not all) had half term last week. (so they have had a week off now and go back on monday). schools in some other places had half term last week too.

most schools have this week off. the school i am on placement in broke up yesterday too. (YAY! - i have never been so ready for a break. its been 9 weeks of my course now and i am exhausted!)

some other schools are even more different, and have 2 weeks off for half term. mostly fee-paying schools. but like my brother is at a normal primary school, and he gets 2 weeks off for half term - last week and this coming week. he only gets 1 week off at easter though instead of 2. (this is because it is a catholic primary school and they like to have the kids in school in the run up to easter)

That's unusual, I've never heard of a state school having two weeks for half term before. Do they get shorter Christmas/Easter/Summer holidays?

The school I work at on wednesday and thursday is on half term this coming week as well. I must remember not to go in!
