Does the home ecomics teacher know about your dyspraxia? If so then it was very unfair that you got kicked out. If you have a SENCO at your scholl then I suggest that you let them know what happened.

I ca understand getting kicked out of a class if you're constantly mis-behaving, but for that? Get you're parent/gaurdian to complain. they're supposed to be teaching you/helping you to improve.

I agree with Creative, Esther and ChocFC. Getting kicked out of a Home Economics class for struggling with cooking is like getting kicked out of a Maths class for not being able to add up sums-it is totally unfair and probably illegal. I would fight this all the way.

Tip: When you've finished cooking, always double check you have turned things off.

- Yesterday, I thought I'd turned the hob off, but had actually just turned it right down. It's was only coz the smoke alarm went off that i discovered that I hadn't - the kitchen was smoky and i had to open the window. luckily it didn't set the kitchen on fire, so there was no damage.

Once at college a girl was being so careful about turning things of that she turned of the switch for the cooker when our dinner was still in it! Luckily she quickly realised what she'd done!

Yeah they do know i have dyspraxia. I think they were only concerned. I mean i did almost accidently cut myself few times

I can do a tuna fish casserole. :-)

I boil the pasta, then I put that in a microwave-safe container, dump in a can of chicken soup (or mushroom soup), a can of tuna in brine (drained) and a can of sweetcorn (also drained). Nuke for three mins in the microwave, stirring after each minute. I usually make enough for three meals because that's what seems to work best with the size of cans that I get. I bought some nifty storage containers from tthe hardware shop that have click on airtight lids that are easy to get on and off. I divide what I've got between three containers - two for the fridge and one to eat from. I always use my electronic scales for this. I also grate some cheese and put it on top of the one I'm eating. Sometimes I put it back in the microwave to melt the cheese. Delicious.

The tins are probably dodgy for some people - I get those tins that you don't need to use a tin opener for. Not because I can't use a tin opener (it's awkward but doable) but just because that's the way the tins are. They have a metal loop on the top that you lever up and then pull the top off... you know what I mean? Can be dangerous - I've sliced myself quite badly on them a couple of times - I just have to remind myself to keep my hand out of the way before I start.

I always make a huge mess when I do this. Sometimes I remember to clean it up. Grating cheese without getting the cheese everywhere is hard. I have a type a grater which is an oval-shaped container and the grater is the lid, so you can grate directly into a container. This helps, but it's still fairly tricky for me.


Something else I can do is pasta with a Dolmio sauce - I use the Dolmio sweet pepper stir-in sauce. Recently, I have been buying those microwavable veggie pouches - I really love veggies and I'm so pleased that I've found a way that I can do them without having to get stressed over using another pan and working out the timing, having to divide my concentration. Additional things to think about would make me more likely to have an accident. Also I'd feel very unsafe chopping them, though I've been told that with some veggies (broccoli for eg) you don't actually have to chop it, you can snap it with your hands instead. So my mum says. The microwavable pouches are not completely without difficulties, you still have to get the pouch out of the microwave and remember to keep your hand out of the way when you cut the top off, or you get steamed, which hurts!


Bit of an improvement on what I used to do - I used to do only spaghetti and cheese. I've also gone through periods of just eating cereal all the time because I had no motivation to do anything else. Takeaways were also a great way to ignore the problem. Not a great idea though.

i managed to cook my slightly weird version of stuffed potatoes and fish last night and i was cooking because my mum was out sis was revising and never let a small 12 year old severely autistic cook tea for you . it did take a bit of time as deciding what to cook when mum forgot to by bolanise because all i can make is lasagne and cottage pie it seemed ok they eat it all anyway more because they were starving because my little atuisic bro wasnt allowed a snack and ended up waiting till 7 to get his tea stiil all good so far i cook tea now because my sis has gcses to revise for so my famliys starving for a few weeks

Where you a girlguide at any point?

I tend to bake it in the oven rather than microwave it, and I add the cheese at the same time as everything else. I can also make it on a campfire. I've never made it with chicken. Unfortunately, unlike you, I still divy it into camp sized portions (although I make less of them), so it's not very good for me.

My mum's great she's always encoraging me to cook with her and when I nock things over an spill things and get flour every were (which happens very often)she ses "Oh well A bit of mess never hurt, it'll clear." we cook every sunday too I love my mum!
Being dyspraxic dosen't make life hard, it makes it interesting

has anyone heard of the "4 Ingredients Student Cookbook"? it's got a lot of fairly simple recipies in it - i found it in my library, and have been trying out recipes in it.

but you can probably get it from your local library if you don't want to buy (Hampshire county library does)
