Reading ability

Many students with pure dyspraxia seem to be phenomenal readers with brilliant memories for the written word. This gift is probably the only thing that keeps me from failing in school; note-taking and planning ahead just don't work for me. As far as I know, there has never been a scientific study into dyspraxia and high levels of reading ability. So, just for fun, here is an informal poll to try and see if there is a connection.

1. Please only answer if you have dyspraxia ONLY, with no other special differences mixed in. No offence to the dyslexics and autistics who hang out on this board (you're all great people!) but other differences will only interfere with the results of the poll.

2.) Before you answer, take the reading speed and comprehension test at www.readingsoft.com

3.) Read at your normal pace.

I got 771 words per minute and 82% comprehension. I did the poll but I do have sensory integration dysfunction which could not affect my reading.

I dunno how fast I am, but I am faster than I used to be

Postby Hermionefan5 » Mon Apr 11, 2005 3:48 am

I dunno how good i am at reading really but I am pretty fast. Never really timed myself. I got faster when I started to like reading and that was after I found Harry Potter! 8) I really am grateful for that day. I really like reading now. I used to be so slow but I am faster because of J.K. Rowling's books!!

I got 127 word a minute at 82% comprehension. Due to the fact i am tired, my eyes could not focus on the screen properly. Due to the belief that reading the same passage again and recording time would obviously be faster due to the human memory helping to skim read more, due to lack of stops and starts i don't think it will help my speed reading ability, though i will try in the day next time.

i read less than 200 words per minite and have 50% less or comprehensionI presume. this is because i am dyslexic as well as dyspraxic I need to read thing a few times before I am abe to fully understand them It also takes longer as I have to breakdown the words inorder to read them.
